About Jammu University
The Jammu University is one of the oldest and most well established educational institutions of present day India. It came into existence in the year 1969. It has been conferred with “A” rating by the National Assessment & Accreditation Council of India. The Jammu University is a unique establishment in itself. It manages all the required tasks which are required to be undertaken by a university, which includes, imparting knowledge, providing grants, organizing examinations, affiliating colleges and other independent institutes, promoting an environment for research and development and the likes. Jammu University is a comprehensive institute which imparts education in numerous streams. The University is made up of 13 faculties which are in turn divided into several departments. These include the faculty for arts/oriental languages, faculty for life sciences, for law, social science, management studies, music and fine arts, engineering, medicine, education, commerce, sciences, behavioural sciences and some of the most prominent emerging courses. Therefore, the scope of knowledge sharing is immense and students opting for this institution can truly make the most of it.
There are various programmes on offer as well, inclusive of degrees and diplomas. Master degree programmes are conducted in as many as 32 subjects inclusive of the most common ones. There are uncommon subjects like environmental sciences and tourism management in which masters degree programmes are also conducted. Bachelors degree programmes in various streams are also conducted here. Some of the popular choices include Library Sciences and Education. Post graduate diplomas are also popular choices and some of the prominent steams include business management, Applied Electronics as well as Computer Science and Applications. There are options for M Phil and PHD as well. For successful completion of the above courses, there are several colleges which cater to various streams and are affiliated with the Jammu University. The prominent categories of colleges include Law Colleges, Engineering Colleges, Degree Colleges, Medical Colleges, Nursing Colleges, PGDCA Colleges, MCA Colleges, BEd colleges and BCom Colleges. These colleges are governed by the university code of conduct and academic standards are maintained par excellence.
The Jammu University is well developed when it comes to infrastructural facilities as well. There are a couple of separate residential properties for staff. There is a fully furnished central library for common usage and there are individual libraries dedicated to each of the departments. The individual libraries are either governed by the central library authorities or they are sometimes placed under the administration of the respective departments as well. The campus also boasts of a solid IT infrastructure which can be availed of by the students. There are relentless ongoing efforts for making the Jammu University
an IT enabled institution.
The Jammu University also has a distance learning programme in place. It has awarded many PHD degrees to scholars who have made their significant contribution in research and development related activities. A conducive environment is provided to research scholars by lending all the required support for carrying out the necessary processes successfully. The Jammu University is one of the first universities to be awarded with the ISO 9001 certification and has been a stalwart in standardized educational practices.
